My Favorite Compliments

I have gotten two compliments so far in my life that have confirmed to me I was on the right path. They were both unexpected, but they really warmed my heart because that was exactly how I saw myself. The first compliment was from a CEO and he said “I can tell you are a no-nonsense type of person.” As he said this, all I could think about was “I am glad you see the real me.” I know I am sweet, welcoming, and warm. But for those who are unwise, it sometimes leaves room for them to think I am going to tolerate foolery. I do not have tolerance left and I am only in my 20s, I have tolerated enough. I am comfortable letting anyone know when I do not agree with their negative actions.

The second compliment was that I reminded someone of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I have gotten this twice so far, after having certain conversations. I agree with that statement whole hearty. I admire a lot about her, and we share a lot of similar views. These compliments stuck with me because sometimes as I continue to grow, I can be fixated on mistakes in my life, that really didn’t suit who I am. Thankfully, I am better at just moving on and making sure I get the best for myself and out of life. I just know both of those situations were important. I acted accordingly and I didn't hesitate to express myself in those moments. I took up appropriate space, I was comfortable with the statements and actions I made that led up to those compliments. I will always see those words as compliments. It could be debated that they were not compliments with more context, but I don’t care. Those moments were a great reflection of my growth. I really executed who I am as a person. I'm a lot of positive things and I'm glad those certain characteristics were highlighted. That's all.
