The Grace to Ease
Why is it that some people may have the answer but lack understanding on how to present the answer to you? It’s not enough to know what you’re talking about. If you cannot convey it to someone and show compassion properly, in a lot of circumstances you’ve lost the plot. It always happens with the people you thought would understand you, especially the people who represent themselves as stewards of wisdom.
Some people may not experience what you have, but because they have an understanding, which is tremendous grace from God, the grace to understand or comprehend people’s circumstances, they are graced to make you feel at ease because their answers or the way they listen show that they understand you.
Whereas there are others we speak to, and they might have the right words to say, but you can tell the understanding of the depths of what you’re talking about is nonexistent. You can feel the shallowness in their tone. Their body language is off-putting and repellant. A lot of language doesn’t have to be spoken; you can feel how much they don’t see you or what has affected you. They can’t imagine it, and sometimes they just don’t believe it. It might be too far outside their realities for them to relate, so they feel cold.
It’s uncomfortable to continue talking to a person that consistently gives you shallow responses or a response that shows they just want to pass the conversation over to another. It’s even worse when they believe they have your solution, or they feel their empty words have comforted you. In their own pride, they can’t see they haven’t heard nor seen you. They might mean well, but the results vary.
There’s a difference between speaking with conviction in your voice and uttering words out of your mouth because you know that’s the right thing to say. It’s frustrating. It makes me really thankful for a few people I have come in contact with that have an understanding of situations, even when they have not experienced it. They may not understand your circumstance, but their posture shows you that they believe you. Their energy shows that they understand that your situation was overwhelming. They don’t dispute the truth or lie to you, but they allow you to express yourself without judgment or expectations.
Their words are warm; you don’t feel like you’re talking to a wall. It kind of feels like a prayer. When you pray to God, He listens. He doesn’t undermine your experiences but gives you a way out. You don’t ever leave feeling stupid, unheard, or overlooked. The prayer strengthens you; you don’t leave the conversation drained.
It just boils down to not everyone will understand, and not everybody is graced for your situation. Thank God for friends, acquaintances, and strangers who have carried burdens for us that we couldn’t carry for ourselves. The Bible verse that comes to me is about guarding your heart. Not everyone that says they will help you can actually help you. Pray God gives you people with an understanding of your circumstance, personality, and mind. Being understood brings a lot of ease into conversations, friendships, and relationships. Trust me, He will provide those people for you.
